Lapland University of Applied Science Joins VAMOS Ecosystem

Lapland University of Applied Sciences is the northernmost UAS in Finland and the EU, focusing on higher education and research, development, and innovations. Success in Arctic conditions and utilizing the conditions are at the core. We have around 6,000 students and 400 employees studying and working in three campus areas in Rovaniemi, Kemi, and Tornio. Our annual turnover is around 50 million euros, and the volume of R&D activities is around 20 million euros.

Lapland UAS’ digital solutions competence group provides both education and R&D activities relevant to the VAMOS ecosystem. Educational activities focus on digitization, software and system development, IT management, digital visual arts, and machine learning. R&D activities for digital solutions focus on game, simulation, and XR technologies, software development, the application of artificial intelligence, robotics, and intelligent systems, among others.

Lapland UAS has a long history in R&D and has been involved in a variety of different autonomous mobility and simulation-related projects ranging from traditional roads to forestry and mining environments. “Our unique location in the North enables us to develop and test autonomous platforms in harsh weather conditions that not many have access to. We are excited to join VAMOS and provide our expertise in simulation and robotics to the ecosystem,” says Tuomas Herranen, Specialist, Lapland UAS.”

“Lapland UAS brings expertise in developing and testing autonomous platforms in arctic environments and harsh weather conditions to the VAMOS ecosystem. We see great collaboration opportunities in this field within the ecosystem, and we warmly welcome Lapland UAS to join our ecosystem,” says Senior Ecosystem Lead Sanni Siltanen from DIMECC Oy.
